III. International Mythology Exhibition

Mythology is full of elements that have opened up the emotional and intellectual world of man since antiquity. Myths are a generalized model of life and events with the set of values they contain. According to the system of meaning, the mythical way of thinking is a consciousness or the reality of the world itself. In this context, bringing allegorical interpretations to visuals enriches the mythological narrative. At this point, art takes its essence from the mythical beauty and reproduces this beauty using various forms. The life reflected in the work of art is embodied by penetrating into the unconscious depths through mythological narratives. For images, symbols, and myths perform the function of revealing the most hidden features of being; every historical being carries within itself a large part of humanity in prehistoric times (Eliade, 2020, s. 21).

Today, the performance of art, while creating a kind of sign adventure, creates a cultural space at the same time, and every work of art is not produced independently of the social, economic and cultural conditions of the era in which it was produced, from the world view of its creator, from the way of seeing and perceiving. In other words, while social, economic and cultural characteristics form our thoughts and beliefs, they also direct our aesthetic experience. In every mythical image or work of art on mythology, there is a way of seeing/showing and reflecting the image reflects the cultural memory of both its creator and viewer. Therefore, every work of art presented as a reflection of civilization integrates mythological discourse or work with its color, line, texture and timbre and reveals the power of the image (Berger,1985, s. 13).

Artworks reinforce the meaning of verbal thought and make it concrete. Artists not only choose their subjects from daily life, but also associate them with mythology because mythological narratives are the products of the collective unconscious that regulates the functioning of the visible world and society. In this respect, mythological narratives allow us to communicate with our unconscious layers by combining images with a kind of fiction. Therefore, when the mythological story is the subject of painting, it deepens the work of art by providing the function of carrying that sacred time to the work. In addition, a mythical figure in the painting has the power to express the symbolic order that shapes it in a concentrated way.

As in Burke's statement that "narratives are designed to communicate with images", III. 3rd International Mythology Symposium, which we organized simultaneously. Our main purpose in the International Mythology Exhibition is; is to create a mythical-visual communication through works from artists, academics, intellectuals and students working on myths, culture and politics. An addition to the studies examining the roles of ancient and modern myths in understanding cultures and the relationship between myth, history, philosophy and artwork, this year from all fields of visual arts, how allegorical discourses strengthen established gender roles and identities throughout history, especially how women are reflected in these stories and myths. and we welcome your work focusing on how these myths affect women's daily life experiences.
